The Music Department supports a number of ensembles. Membership is determined by audition and academic credit may be earned. These ensembles are open to all LSU students.

La Sierra Sinfonia

La Sierra Sinfonia expanded to a full symphonic orchestra in 1996. Comprised of the finest instrumentalists at the University, membership is by audition only. Open to all University students, the membership of the La Sierra Sinfonia is made up of both graduate and undergraduate students, representing the many varied degrees available at La Sierra University.

La Sierra University Chorale

The La Sierra University Chorale is a joint function of La Sierra University and the La Sierra University Church. The Chorale provides a large ensemble experience for singers enrolled in the University, and in the greater La Sierra Community. It also serves as a regular student chorale for worship services. The Chorale's ministry extends beyond the campus, as each quarter the Chorale travels to one of the constituent churches. The Chorale is conducted by Earl Richards.

University Wind Ensemble

The University Wind Ensemble differs from a symphonic band or concert band in the basic concept of sound. This concept of sound is that of a basic tone color, complete and balanced throughout its register, with all other tone colors being employed around and contrasting to it. Instrumentation is carefully controlled with one player to a part, with exception of B-flat soprano clarinets, euphoniums, and tubas, where there are usually two to a part for the sake of balance. This results in a maximum brilliancy and provides for lightness, flexibility, and a variety of sound, color, and texture not heard in the general band sound.

Open to all university students, the membership of Wind Ensemble is made up of both graduate and undergraduate students, representing the many varied degrees available at LSU. Membership is by audition only. Performing music from all periods and all styles, with emphasis on significant wind music repertoire, this select group of musicians is devoted to the development of high musicianship and the advancement of instrumental music.
