Well@LSU - more...

According to Sue Curtis, Associate Vice President for Student Life, and chairperson of the taskforce, this has been one of the most enthusiastic groups working on a single task. “It became apparent that wellness was a priority and that everyone was happy to be involved.” Support for the program came from many different department including Student Life, Financial Administration, Human Resources, Health Services, Health Exercise and Science, Counseling Center, SALSU, Residential Life, Food Service, and Risk Management.

The taskforce recognized three main components of the program.  These are physical evaluation, fitness evaluation, and individual action plans. Successfully reaching individual goals culminates with the rewards of better health as well as an opportunity to receive a free t-shirt and the potential for winning $250.00 in cash.

During the kick-off activity representatives from Student Life, Human Resources, Health Services, and Risk Management manned a both dispensing wellness information and providing fitness items through drawings every five minutes. Health Services provided free blood pressure testing and made appointment for a free blood study and a consultation with Dr. Paul Aoyagi, medical director of the University Health Services. Students, faculty, and staff had a opportunity to sign-up for the fitness evaluation and for fitness classes to be held during the winter quarter.

The kick-off activity drew about 260 individuals. On January 12, 2006 another kick-off activity will be offered for the campus.
