To comprehensively envision greater levels of wellness in the LSU community.

To seek to advance attitudes and behaviors that support our values for "wholeness" and promote wellness of mind, body, and soul.

"Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body."    1Corinthinas 6:19-20 NIV

Well@LSU

On December 1, 2005, La Sierra University launched its new comprehensive wellness program, Well@LSU. This new program is a direct result of the Wellness Taskforce. The taskforce consisted of a number of individuals from the La Sierra University community including faculty, staff, and students. Working through the winter and spring quarters of 2005, they developed a basic program and made a final recommendation to the Vice President for Student Life. It is from the department of Student Life that the wellness initiative was born.

Wellness Committee Formed

Once the work of the Wellness Taskforce was completed with the submission of its recommendations, a new committee was formed. The Wellness Committee with a smaller membership, will now manage the actual wellness program. The committee members include Dell Jean Van Fossen, director of Human Resources, Dr. Sylvia Chang, director of Health Services, Donna Morgan, director of Health and Exercise Science Facilities, Bethany Morse, SALSU CABL director, and Sue Curtis, Associate Vice President of Student Life, who serves as chairperson of the committee.

With two meetings under their belts, the committee organized and hosted a “Well @LSU” kick-off event on campus on December 1, 2003. A booth was set-up near the front of the Dinning Commons at noon. During this time about 250 students, staff, and faculty received brochures introducing the program, visited the booth and had their blood pressure measured, and registered to when a number of fitness items. Risk Management was represented and offered free health items and sponsored a drawing. The Natural Foods Market also sponsored a gift certificate and basket.
