Happy New Year from all of us at OISS!
The staff of OISS as well as the LSU faculty and staff would like to wish all of you, our international students, a blessed and prosperous 2005! Whether you are a returning or a new international student, we are honored and happy to have you at LSU. May 2005 be full of blessings and happiness.
If you are a student who received a new I-20 before Christmas break and traveled home for the holidays, please make sure we have a copy of your new and stamped I-20 and I-94.
One of our international students was involved in a car accident on January 3, 2005. Although she is well, she will be going home to China to recover at home with her family. She is planning on coming back Spring quarter. Please keep her in your prayers. |

Case Status Online Search
Whether you applied for an OPT card, an H1-B, or an R-1 visa, now you can check the status of your application online. This service, provided by the U.S. Government, requires that you have your receipt number (if you applied for a case at the California Service Center (CSC), this number usually starts with WAC##########). Check your case status now!
If you applied for an OPT card and it has been over 90 days since you received your receipt and still do not have your EAD card, you need to make an appointment through Info Pass to get your temporary OPT card at the local San Bernardino USCIS office. Medical Health Insurance
The office of International Student Services has renewed all the health insurance for returning students and has purchased medical insurance for all the new international students that have reported to our office. The new insurance cards are valid from January 1 - June 30, 2005.
Due to the amount paid for benefits by the insurance company during the 2004 year, the monthly premium has been increased to $79/month or $237/quarter. At this time, dependants are still not allowed in the policy. |
Ambulances in the United States are high-tech but do not come with internet access and printers. PRINT YOUR INSURANCE CARD NOW!
Printing Your Insurance Card
To print your new insurance card, please follow these instructions:
1. Go on-line to GGH Students.com.
2. Click "Sign-In"
3. If you already registered with them, enter your email address and password. If you never logged in before, then enter your email address and select "I'm a new user." Follow the instructions. If you need your Certificate Number, contact us.
4. Click on the upper left corner in the "My Benefits."
5. Click on the "ID" green icon (to the right). You will need Acrobat Reader to see/print your card.

LSU Students Spared from Tsunami.
Although we have several students from South East Asia, the Office of International Student Services did not have any reported casualties or damages by students who live in the area affected by the Tsunami of December 2004.
