Master of Arts | Educational Specialist | Doctor of Education

Master of Arts, Administration and Leadership

Requirements

To build an area of leadership emphasis, the program will include 21 additional units in educational administration and leadership. These units are selected in consultation with a department advisor, and should include the following:

EDAD 540 Personal and Philosophical Aspects of Leadership

Electives (9 units) are to be determined in consultation with department advisor and are to become a part of the student's approved program.

A total of 45 quarter units with a GPA of 3.0 must be attained for completion.

 

Educational Specialist, Ed.S., Administration and Leadership

Requirements

To build an area of leadership emphasis, the program will include 45 units in addition to the prerequisites. These units should include the following:

Core Courses (15 units) The following courses represent the core requirement for all School of Education, Educational Specialist degrees:

EDAD 687 Leadership in the Organization
EDFO 606 Sociology in Education
EDPC 607 Dynamics of Personality
EDRS 604 Educational Statistics I
  Religion Course

Administration and Leadership Courses (9 units) Twelve units, including EDAD 687 above, are required in School Administration. These units are to be determined in consultation with department advisor and are to become a part of the student's approved program.

Elective Courses (21 units) are to be determined in consultation with department advisor and are to become a part of the student's approved program.

Checklist of Steps

1.___Make application to the Admissions Office of La Sierra University
2.___Interview with an advisor from Department of Administration and Leadership
3.___Request transcripts from previous colleges or universities attended
4.___Work with department advisor to obtain an approved program
5.___Make application for Advancement to Candidacy upon completion of approximately 27-30 units of the approved program (Advancement to Candidacy occurs upon recommendation of department faculty and Graduate Committee approval)
6.___Petition for Graduation
7.___Complete coursework with a GPA of 3.3 or higher Ed.S. 9/00

 

Doctor of Education, Ed.D., Administration and Leadership

Requirements

Core Requirements

The following courses (24 units) represent the core requirement for all School of Education Doctoral degrees:

EDAD 687 Leadership in the Organization
EDAD 688 Moral Leadership
EDFO 606 Sociology of Education
EDPC 607 Dynamics of Personality
EDRS 604 Educational Statistics, 1
EDAD 791 Contemporary Issues in Education

EDRS 702

EDRS 703

Educational Statistics II
or
Qualitative Research Methodology

EDRS 704 Research Design

Department Requirements

To build an area of leadership emphasis, the program will include 33 additional units in educational administration and leadership including the following:

EDAD 676 The School Community
EDAD 695 Organizational Systems and Culture
EDAD 798 Dissertation

Electives

Electives (30 units) are to be determined in consultation with department advisor and are to become a part of the student's approved program.

A total of 87 post-MA quarter units with a GPA of 3.5 must be attained for completion.

Residency Requirements

Students must complete the final 42 units in residence at La Sierra University
