The Master of Arts in Teaching is a terminal degree which provides the fifth year credential for the North American Division and a preliminary credential for California.  Follow these steps to get your credential:

Step 1    Pre professional Coursework

EDCI 204  Teaching in the Multicultural Classroom   3
One of the following:
EDFO 305 Psych. Foundations of Education
  4
OR    
EDCI 507  Psych. Theories of Instruction   3

Seventh-day Adventist Coursework

PSYC 234  Developmental Psychology   4
EDCI 504 Philosophical Aspects of Christian Education   3
RELH 483  History of Seventh-day Adventism   4
RELT 245  Christian Beliefs   4
Any RELB  Bible Doctrine Course   4
One elective in any Religion Course   4
EDCI 511  Advanced Health & Safety in Education   3
EDCI 513  Advanced Study of Teaching English Language Learners   3

EDCI 511 & 513 are for SDA Calif. Clear credentials candidates working for the SDA church who want Calif. clear credentials, or for teachers in districts which have no fifth year program.

**La Sierra University Teacher Education Program does not advise Student Teaching under intern status.  The regular Student Teaching is recommended.

 

Step 3   Other Requirements
As you are completing the coursework be sure that you have fulfilled all the following requirements.  See an advisor for your specific program.
Acceptance into Teacher Education

  • CBEST (passed)
  • RICA
  • CSET (passed)
  • Certificate of Clearance
  • TB test
  • CPR results on file
  • GPA 2.75
  • Computer test passed
  • TPA (passed)
