| Earthquakes
or Explosion
If indoors, stay inside and get under a desk, table
or other sturdy object such as a doorway. Stay away
from windows, cabinets, and shelves. If you are outside,
get into the open, away from buildings, trees, or
power lines. Sit or lie down and brace yourself. Leave
the building when the shaking stops and remain outside.
Each residence hall has a designated
evacuation location
If you are on campus away from your residence hall,
please return to your hall's evacuation area. In the
event of a major disaster, please let a friend or
an RA know if you are leaving campus so that we may
account for you.
Evacuation:
- Angwin to center of campus (Founders Green)
- Calkins to center of campus (Founders Green)
- Gladwyn to center of campus (Founders Green)
- Sierra Towers to center of campus (Founders
Green)
Fire Regulations
The fire alarm system consists of smoke detectors,
pull stations, and a fire sprinkler system. The fire
alarm in each hall is a loud intermittent signal.
Fire in the building:
If you discover a fire in the building, pull the
alarm and call x2222 from the nearest phone. Leave
the room and close any doors that contain the fire.
Contact the Dean or RA and evacuate the building.
Residents should not attempt to put out fires, unless
a life is in imminent danger. The reason for this
is the safety of all involved.
The procedure for responding to a fire alarm is:
- Test your door for heat or smoke before exiting.
If the door is warm or the hallway impassable:
- Place towels at the base of the door;
- Dial 2222 to report the fire;
- Go to the window and make your presence
known.
- If the door is cool and the hallway clear, exit
the building immediately by the route taught during
the fire drills:
- Grab your shoes, jacket, and keys before
evacuating;
- Close your door;
- Wait in the designated area, at least 100
feet from the building;
- Fire Department or University authority
will announce when the building is safe to
enter.
Every alarm must be treated as
a genuine emergency
It is each resident's responsibility to leave the
building whenever a fire alarm sounds. Failure to
evacuate immediately will result in disciplinary and/or
police action. Drills will be conducted at least once
a quarter. Specific directions to designated areas
will be supplied on hallway bulletin boards. |
