A distinguished, yet highly accessible faculty of artist-scholars prepares students for professional music careers in performance, teaching, and music technology.
In harmony with La Sierra University's mission to enlarge human understanding through scholarship, to educate the whole person, and to serve others in a global community, the mission of the Music Department is to advance the study and practice of music within the context of Christian values and ideals.
OUR MUSIC PROGRAM
The music faculty is committed to providing a challenging and rewarding environment where you can grow and develop, both artistically and intellectually. In addition to the Bachelor of Music in Performance and a Bachelor of Music in Music Education, the Department of Music offers a Bachelor of Arts in Music, a degree designed for talented students interested in professional careers outside of music performance or music education. A unique program called the Music/Pre-professional degree allows students to use music as the vehicle for attaining the requirements necessary for professional schools. In fact, the Music/Pre-Medicine and the Music/Pre-Dentistry degrees have been collaboratively designed and articulated with the professional schools of Loma Linda University. The newest degree offering is a Bachelor of Science in Music Technology that allows students to learn and explore the rapidly changing and exciting world of music and technology related areas. Finally, the Department of Music offers a post-baccalaureate, Performer's Certificate program, designed to enhance the artistic preparation for higher levels of graduate school and/or job placement.
Commitment to excellence is an important goal of the Department of Music. In addition to providing you with the challenges and rewards of excellence in education, the Department of Music strives to make each music student an integral part of the Department's family. The faculty and staff are not only committed to providing you with a quality education, they are also committed to providing you with a caring and nurturing support system. You will not be only a name or number at La Sierra University, you will be part of the music family!
The Department of Music is a fully accredited, institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music. The requirements for entrance and for graduation are in accordance with the published regulations of this accrediting body. As you consider La Sierra University for your musical studies, be assured that our commitment is to educate musicians who will be the artists, music teachers, and cultural leaders of tomorrow.
