La Sierra University will host a research poster session, awards, a keynote talk and departmental research assemblies during LSU’s Research Emphasis Week, May 26 – May 29.
Department assemblies will take place on May 27 between 11 a.m. and 11:50 a.m. in various locations on campus. The assemblies will feature presentations by honors students and seniors. For example, student Rindala Obeid will present a study on the culture shock experienced by international students and student Krista Gonzales will discuss the role of glycopeptides (carbohydrates) in extracellular communication.
The School of Business research assembly will take place at 11 a.m. in Meier Chapel at Sierra Towers.
On May 28, beginning at 6 p.m., the university will respectively host a research poster session and reception, keynote presentation and poster awards. The poster session and reception will take place in the hallways of Cossentine Hall and the Thaine B. Price Science Complex. Student and faculty researchers will be available to answer questions about their work. As of May 22, students and faculty had registered to exhibit 34 posters.
At 6:45 p.m., Professor Chang Ho Ji, chair of the Dept. of School Psychology and Counseling in the School of Education, will give a keynote address. His talk, titled “Deliberate Christianity: Does Religion Make Us Socially Responsible,” will focus on the complex pattern of relationship between personal religiosity and social decisions Christians make. The address will take place in Cossentine Hall, room 100. Ji is the La Sierra University Distinguished Research Professor for 2007-08.
Faculty will present poster awards following the keynote address.
