Students in Doyne Lewis’ third grade class at La Sierra Elementary School were introduced many different individual career choices on October 18. Students dressed for the occasion as professionals such as doctors, nurses, a welder, a magician, and a policeman. Each student also asked a parent or friend to come talk about his or her career.

Third-grader Danny Bazan asked his mom, Yamileth Bazan, Vice President for Student Life at La Sierra University, to talk to his class. She brought several of her staff along, including Sue Curtis, Associate Vice President for Student Life, Fain Nahab, Student Life Assistant, and Shawn Linse, Security Officer. The four La Sierra University representatives told their third-grade audience about Student Life and the importance of staying in school.

Students particularly enjoyed La Sierra University’s fifth representative--Boyca, the University’s canine officer. The students asked many questions about Boyca and then got to pat her head. Boyca was a very good example for the students, sitting quietly through the presentation. Sue Curtis reminded the students about the importance of staying in school and studying hard. Each student was presented with a backpack and invited to come to La Sierra University for their freshmen year in college.
