As one of the new faculty joining the English and Communication department at La Sierra University, Sam McBride is bringing new academic emphases and preparing for a busy year.
With emphases in 20th century American poetry fiction and drama as well as feminist, post-modern and performative theory, McBride received his Ph.D. from UCR in 1997. Since then, he has published a number of articles pertaining to the works of C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkein, and the issues of feminism and religion. Also, McBride co-authored “Women Among the Inklings: Feminism, C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkein, and Charles Williams” in 2001 and has another book in progress.
Though his publications are numerous and emphases are wide, McBride is enthusiastic about continuing teaching.
“The kind of students’ LSU attracts appeals to me,” says McBride, referring to his appreciation of the diversity of the campus’ student population and academic interests.
Previously a professor at DeVry University in Pomona, McBride has moved with his wife and daughters to Riverside to take his position as Associate Professor of English. In his new position, he will be teaching a variety of English courses, including 20th century literature, and acting as a co-coordinator for the English College Writing sequence.
Having graduated from La Sierra University (then Loma Linda University, La Sierra Campus) in 1987 with a M.A. in English, McBride has always wanted to work in a Christian liberal arts college. Since beginning his position at LSU this summer, he says, “It’s wonderful to be back. But I’m getting used to called Dr. [Robert] Dunn ‘Bob.’”
