Anton N. Hasso MD, FACR has been named the 2007-2008 president of the American Roentgen Ray Society. Dr. Hasso took office on May 6, 2007 during a ceremony held at the ARRS Annual Meeting in Orlando, FL. Dr. Hasso is Professor of Radiological Sciences and Director of Neuroimaging Research at the University of California (UC), Irvine.
Dr. Hasso, a 1962 graduate from La Sierra, received his medical degree from Loma Linda University School of Medicine and completed his residency at the White Memorial Medical Center as well as a cardiovascular radiology fellowship at Loma Linda University. He served as a National Institute of Neurologic Diseases and Stroke Special Fellow in Neuroradiology at UC Los Angeles. Dr. Hasso has served on the faculty of Loma Linda University and is a former Chairman of the Department of Radiology at UC Irvine.
Dr. Hasso is a nationally and internationally recognized expert in diagnostic neuroimaging with clinical interests in applications of CT and MR imaging in disorders of the head and neck. He has authored more than 118 peer-reviewed articles as well as 78 books, book chapters and monographs. Dr. Hasso’s research interests include emerging clinical applications of spiral CT and CT angiography as well as clinical applications of high-field magnets, MR angiography, MR spectroscopy, functional MR imaging, MR perfusion and MR diffusion imaging.
Dr. Hasso is a reviewer and member of the editorial boards of seven scientific journals in his specialty including: the American Journal of Neuroradiology, American Journal of Roentgenology and Journal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging. Past honors and activities include President of the American Society of Neuroradiology, President of the Western Neuroradiological Society, President of the American Society of Head and Neck Radiology, and Founding Member of the World Federation of Neuroradiological Societies. Dr. Hasso has served as a member of the Executive Council of the American Roentgen Ray Society as President of the California Radiological Society and as a delegate of the American Medical Association from the American College of Radiology. Dr. Hasso has been listed in Orange Coast Magazine’s “Best Doctors in Orange County,” the list of “Best Doctors in America,” and in the “Guide to America’s Top Radiologists.”
The American Roentgen Ray Society, founded in 1900, is the first and oldest radiology society in the United States. The society has been a forum for progress in radiology since shortly after the discovery of the X-ray and is dedicated to the goal of the advancement of medicine through the science of radiology and its allied sciences. The goal of the ARRS is maintained through an annual scientific and educational meeting and through the peer-reviewed international publication of the American Journal of Roentgenology.
