Let’s take a walk, through the valleys and over the hills and across the rivers of Northern England.
This was the real life adventure of Lewis Gray, a 1972 alumnus of La Sierra Univeristy, that has resulted in the publication of his book, Coast to Coast Walking: England’s Northern Treck from St. Bees to Robin Hood’s Bay. In his book, Gray highlights each day of the 19-day journey, a 190-mile walk that he embarked on with his wife, Robyne, in 2004. In addition to providing a rich experience for readers who enjoy walking, Coast to Coast shares insights about bed & breakfasting, camaraderie on the trail and the extensive and detailed planning needed for such a trip.
Gray says it’s his “love of walking, nature and England that led to the planning for this trip of a lifetime,” and the initial inspiration came from a National Geographic Traveler article. His trek took him though the national parks of Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors. Approximately 170 photographs capture the countryside of England as Gray traveled through villages and nature of England.
In 1972, Gray received a BA in Theology from La Sierra. He has been a pastor for 33 years in the Southern California Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. Presently, Gray serves as senior pastor of the West Covina Hills Adventist Church.
