Christine Law, instructor of Communication at La Sierra University, joins the staff this fall while working on her doctoral dissertation with concentrations in teaching and learning, and qualitative research at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
“I liked the openness to speak freely about God and prayer,” says Law about teaching at La Sierra. Born in Loma Linda she earned her bachelor’s degree in communications from Pacific Union College and two master’s degrees: one in English from La Sierra University and another in education from UCSB.
Her research interests include deaf culture, oral histories, educational equity, and discourse. She has taught contract courses at La Sierra University as well as served as a teaching assistant at both La Sierra and UCSB.
Law has presented at conferences, printed publications, and won awards including the Philip and Green Fellowship 2004, for proposed project, “Improving Access by Investigating Discourse between the Deaf and Hearing.”
In her free time, Law enjoys ballet, Chinese dance, and Korean soap opera.
“I know Christine well, since she has been contract teaching with us, and I like that she always has ideas,” says communication department chair Mary Wilson, Ph.D. “I know that she is very invested in what she does.”
