Who: The TransPacific Consortium (TPC) is an innovative initiative formed by Claremont Graduate University, La Sierra University (Riverside), and Portland State University to coordinate programs across these three Universities.
What: Their goal is to help businesses and government officials manage the impending shifts in global influence caused by the rise of Asia – particularly China and India as world powers
How: Event will officially launch TPC
Guest speakers:
Dr. Jacek Kugler, member of TPC board and Elisabeth Helm Rosecrans Professor of International Relations and Political Economy, Claremont Graduate University will speak on “The Asian Challenge”
Dr. Ronald L. Tammen, president of TPC and director of the Mark O. Hatfield School of Government at Portland State University, will speak on “US Policy Towards China and India”

When: Thursday, October 12, noon
Where: La Sierra University, School of Business, TPC headquarters
Why: TPC will analyze how the triangular relationship will affect the relations among the United States, China and India and the 21st century. TPC will assist business and government entities anticipate roadblocks to cooperation among these three counties and identify opportunities for investment, trade, and reciprocal relationships.
Three academic entities in the United States, each with distinct capabilities, have developed this Consortium:
Mark O. Hatfield School of Government at Portland State University, which specializes in policy issues and publications
The School of Politics and Economics at Claremont Graduate University, which specializes in advanced quantitative and theoretical work.
The School of Business at La Sierra University with its in-depth expertise of the business communities in all three countries. School of Business dean, Dr. John Thomas, will serve as the chair, which also brings the headquarters for TPC.
