The La Sierra University School of Business has added Danette Zurek as a new assistant professor of accounting for fall 2006.
“Danette Zurek worked as a certified public accountant in private practice and as a member of La Sierra's collaborating faculty before taking up her new academic appointment,” says John Thomas, Ph.D., dean of the School of Business. “She is committed to enlivening and strengthening La Sierra's accounting program, of which she is herself a graduate.”
Zurek earned her bachelor’s degree from Loma Linda University, La Sierra campus, and a MBA with an accounting emphasis from Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan. She also holds her CPA license in both California and Texas.
For the past six years Zurek has taught classes at La Sierra University part-time. She also currently owns two businesses: a consulting and accounting business that assists elementary schools; and another as a tax preparer.
Her work history includes instructor of accounting at Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, Virginia and Andrews University. Zurek was a staff auditor for the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists Auditing Service in Lincoln, Nebraska and she served as a supervisory accountant for the Naval Ocean Systems Center in San Diego, California.
“I like to teach at an Adventist school,” says Zurek on her new position at La Sierra University. “This is my alma mater, I have an extra sense of where I want to be. I started dating my husband here.”
When not teaching or operating her two businesses, Zurek likes hanging out with her husband and two girls. She also likes to read, scrap book, cross-stitch, and go camping.
