Riverside, CA – The Sixth Annual “Health Care Disparities – Finding
Solutions” summit will take place in Cossentine Hall, room 100
on the campus of La Sierra University Friday, October 7, from 8:00 a.m.
to 4:00 p.m. Admission is free and includes continental breakfast, lunch
and hand out materials, but reservations are required. The summit hosts
are LSU, the Vines Medical Society, the California Medical Association
Foundation and the National Medical Association.
The Health Care Disparities summit will share information on the
source and cause of health related disparities that might lead
to other issue including morbidity and mortality in America’s poor, underserved
communities, as well as details on how to obtain jobs in the profession
of health care.
Keynote speaker, Richard A. Williams, UCLA professor of cardiology;
founder of the association of black cardiologists and the minority
health institute and author of the “Textbook of Black Related Diseases.” Williams
will speak at 12:30 p.m. Other speakers include James Kyle, M.D., dean
of the School of Public Health, Loma Linda University; Karin A. Brown,
Ph.D., professor of social work at Cal State Los Angeles; and La Donna
White, M.D., clinical associate professor of medicine at the University
of Southern California and UC Davis.
“Friday’s events it to provide information to the young people
of minorities about health care,” says Eugene Joseph, La Sierra University
assistant professor of biology and a coordinator of the summit. The event will
also share information on how to become a physician or dentist and give minorities
solutions to better prepare for a career in health care.
“My hope is that we can provide information that will educate health
care professionals, educators, students and he general public,” says
Joseph. “I hope this symposium becomes an annual event and La Sierra
University plays a pivotal role in this endeavor in inspiring students and
faculty to enclose the disparity gap by education.”
