Over 1,000 students attended the La Sierra University Convocation to welcome in the new school year.

Christina Manchur, La Sierra University business major, gave her oath of office with Dr. Lawrence T. Geraty, La Sierra University president, as the SALSU president during the Convocation ceremonies. She also introduced the SALSU officers for this coming school year.

Riverside, Ca. – Dr. Warren C. Trenchard, La Sierra University Provost, was the featured speaker for the Convocation held September 28 at 11:00 a.m. in the La Sierra University Church. His title was “From Copernicus to Captain Kirk: What it Means to be a Student of La Sierra University.

In the middle of his address Dr. Trenchard took off his academic robe and showed the crowd his Star Trek Enterprise uniform that he was wearing underneath.

Included in the Convocation ceremonies was the SALSU (Student Association La Sierra University) President Oath of Office given by Lawrence T. Geraty, La Sierra University president, taken by Christina Manchur, La Sierra University junior business, management concentration, and SALSU president.

Special music for the event was performed by the La Sierra University Chamber Singers under the direction of E. Earl Richards, II, La Sierra University assistant professor of music. Prelude and recessional were performed by Brass, Percussion, and Organ, with Barbara Favorito, La Sierra University professor of music, conductor, and Kimo Smith, La Sierra University chair, department of music, and associate professor of music, organist.
