Riverside, Ca. Around 1,000 La Sierra University students attended a political rally in the Alumni Pavilion Tuesday, October 26. Democratic candidate for the 66th assembly district, Laurel Nicholson, and Dave Everett, political director for the Republican party of Riverside County, participated in the rally.

Organizers for the LSU event are Jay Razzouk, La Sierra University senior business accounting major and Student Association of La Sierra University (SALSU) executive vice president and Gabriel Uribe, La Sierra University junior history major and president of Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE).

"The assembly happened like clockwork,” Razzouk says. “I was very pleased with the turn out of the student body and the extent to which they got involved with what was happening."

Everett has worked for Congressman Ken Calvert, in Riverside and Washington, D.C., as well as serving as senior field representative for Assemblyman Todd Spitzer. Nicholson is a local resident, mother and small business owner. She has been recognized by the Speaker of the California State Assembly for her contributions to women in business, is an ambassador for the Murrieta Chamber of Commerce and serves in the office of the CEO for the Professional Women’s Roundtable.

"Political Awareness Week surely could not be more successful without the support of students, faculty and administration,” adds Razzouk. ”This week was largely a student-led, grass-roots movement, but the University administration has been very supportive. I hope that this won't be the last of the Political Awareness movement. Those who are involved are already thinking of how to keep the movement going."
