Pierce Street
Mural Approved by City Council
Following an extensive review process muralist Art Eliseo Silva
was selected by the City of Riverside to design the mural to be
painted at the Pierce Street Underpass for the 91 freeway, Riverside's
western gateway. The City, along with Ward 7 councilperson Steve
Adams, then hosted a series of three evening mural design sessions
with residents in the La Sierra Community to gather stories and
share photographs about the history of the Rancho La Sierra area.
On July 13 final design approval was voted by City Council.

Thaine
B. Price Science Complex at La Sierra University
After years of planning, La Sierra University began construction
of a new 48,600 square foot facility to house classrooms, laboratories,
and office space for two academic departments- Mathematics/Computer
Science and Biology-currently located in multiple locations on campus.
The science complex project will also include significant renovation
and re-equipping of neighboring Palmer Hall, La Sierra's primary
science building since the early 1950s, to house the university's
Physics and Chemistry departments. Together with existing lecture
space, the proposed complex will form one of the most up-to-date,
well-equipped, and functional science instruction and research centers
in Southern California. The cost for the new facility will be $20,813,000.
Several leadership gifts are already in hand to push this project
forward. Notable LSU alumnus and distinguished heart surgeon, Thaine
B. Price, has made a substantial commitment to the project as the
lead gift. Several million-dollar commitments from Southern California
foundations and individuals have also been secured to date. (View

In other news, progress continues on the new 500-unit apartment
complex on RiverWalk Parkway near La Sierra University. Occupancy
is expected early fall.
