Fisher Written by Eric Schilt, Assistant for Public Relations Riverside, CA -- Sandy “Spin” Slade, arguably the best basketball handler in the world, according to La Sierra Athletic Recruitment Director Willie Neal, is holding several two-day basketball camps, “Striving for Skills,” at La Sierra University.
All participants of the camps will receive personal instruction from Slade, whose involvement in basketball has continued to grow since she was a player at Northern Wisconsin in high school and the Division 1 program at Fresno State in college. Aside from these camps and experience as a player, Slade is best known for her basketball handling exhibitions seen all over the country. Her basketball wizardry has been seen at school assemblies, basketball camps, clinics, recreational centers, corporate and special events, and halftimes at high school, college, ABL, WNBA and NBA games. Slade has also made national television appearances on “The David Letterman Show” and a commercial for Nintendo Gameboy. Aside from just an entertainer and camp instructor, Slade has dedicated herself to teaching people about the game at an even broader level. Her three publications “Off the Rim,” “The Art of Handling the Rock,” and “Teaching Basketball FUNdamentals” are all widely accepted in the basketball world. “Off the Rim” is endorsed by both the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association and The Women’s Sports Foundation. In addition, “The Art of Handling the Rock” and “Teaching Basketball FUNdamentals” are extremely popular with Physical Education instructors for teaching and improving basketball skills. Neal will be assisting Slade in these basketball clinics. He will help coordinate the events and provide Slade with all of La Sierra’s resources. . . . . . . . . . . .
