Riverside, CA – La Sierra University presents Four American Plays May 8-11. The plays will take place Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 8:00 pm with a Friday matinee at 2:00 pm in Matheson Chapel at La Sierra University, 4700 Pierce Street, Riverside.

The Four American Plays featured include “Overtones” by Alice Gerstenderg from 1913. “Overtones” takes place in an apartment with two socialites having tea accompanied by their alter personalities and they have the same man in common. The second play, “Trifles” by Susan Glastell from 1916, deals with murder on an American farm. It focuses on the local residents reactions to the strange series of events.

The third play to be featured is an adaptation of Ernest Hemingway from 1927 entitled, “Hills Like White Elephants.” In this play two American tourists in Spain deal with an ongoing dilemma. The fourth and final play by Tennessee Williams, “The Chalky White Substance,” imagines the life of a man 400 years after his own time, 1960, and 200 years after a thermo nuclear war. The man lives in the dessert where Pasadena, California used to be.

Come and enjoy four one-act stories that reflect diverse American attitudes towards issues of gender, power, and language. Tickets are $3 for students and $5 for the general public. For more information contact the English and Communication Department of La Sierra University at (909) 785-2241.
