Thaine B. Price, M.D., speaks of his appreciation for the quality of science education he received at La Sierra during his undergraduate days, and his desire for future students to have the best possible education at La Sierra University.

“A benefactor is one who gives help. Helping has been what Dr. Thaine B. Price has done all his life,” says Lawrence T. Geraty, La Sierra University president “Dr. Price has distinguished himself in professional service as a surgeon as well as in a support for his alma mater.”

Following graduation from La Sierra College in 1949, he attended Loma Linda University obtaining his M.D. in 1953. Post-graduate education included an internship at the LA county hospital followed by a residency in general, thoracic, and cardiovascular surgery at UCLA.

He then decided to go into his private practice, which he did for 35 years in Orange county serving as chief of staff and chief of surgery at several of the areas hospitals. Thaine was married to another La Sierra Alumnus, Wanda Foster, for 46 years. She lived until her untimely death due to cancer in 1997. Their son, Steve, is a successful real Estate developer in Utah. Their son, Jeff, is an entrepreneurial physician bio-engineer at UC San Diego.

A growing interest in and appreciation for his alma mater led Dr. Price to initiate and support numerous campus projects, including the following:

  • World Museum of Natural History, especially the bird display,
  • The Stahl Center for World Service, including the Path of the Just
  • The Wanda A. Price Memorial Scholarship Endowment which is given each spring
  • The Glory of God's Grace sculpture, created by Alan Collins and now located on the site of the future RiverWalk Entrance to the La Sierra University campus.

Now capping his philanthropic spirit is the lead pledge toward the new science building, which will bear his name.
