The Brandstater Art Gallery at La Sierra University proudly welcomes back artist Daniel Cautrell. His exhibition, "Prints, Panels, and Other Comments" will be in the gallery from November 11 to December 12.
Cautrell, formerly a Riverside-based artist who now resides in Washington state, is a printmaker, muralist, and wood carver whose work cleverly reflects his personal observations and philosophies on a variety of social issues. Cautrell creates work for small audiences as well as public works and has received a number of grants and awards, including a GAP Grant from the Artist Trust and awards from the Seattle Arts Commission. His most recent public project is a mural commissioned by the Oregon Food Bank entitled, "Fruits of Our Efforts."

Daniel Cautrell Artwork

Many of Cautrell's murals are on display throughout Riverside County. Among them: "The Puppet Kings" at the Kidstuff Children's Performing Arts Center, "Growth Potentials" at the Riverside County Economic Development Agency and "Gathering at the River" at the Riverside Hospice. Cautrell is active in his Washington community and leads various workshops and projects along the Pacific coast in both printmaking and mural-making.

The images presented in his Brandstater Gallery exhibition include prints from the newer "Disaster, Vital Signs" and "Strange Scenes" series, as well as images from the "Parable" series. The "Disaster" series is made up of 12 linoleum cut prints on paper, each depicting a different form of disaster: man-made, natural, and fantastic. Cautrell has a striking ability to tell a story through his image and through the light-hearted text that accompanies many of his works.

This current exhibition will also highlight Cautrell's flexibility in working with a variety of media. His pieces range from various relief-cut panels to a series of carved wood totem poles.

An opening reception for "Daniel Cautrell: Prints, Panels & Other Comments" is scheduled for Monday, November 11 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. The exhibition runs from November 11 to December 12, 2002. Brandstater Gallery hours: Mon-Thurs 10 a.m.-4 p.m.; Sun 2-5 p.m. Closed Fridays and Nov 25-Dec 1.
