Riverside, Calif., March, 2002 -- La Sierra University psychology majors Curtis Castro and Kristina Jahng (double-majoring in biology), were awarded the McLean Student Research Grants on January 15 at the Psychology Colloquium in Cossentine Hall. The McLean Grant provides a $500 stipend and approved amount for direct expenses on the selected research projects. Seven student proposals were considered by the Psychology faculty. After much discussion and review, Castro and Jahng were chosen based on their outstanding research project proposals respectively titled, "Creation and Validation of a State Collective Self-Esteem Questionnaire" and "Patients' Perceptions of their Physicians' Facilitation of Involvement in Care." The proposals have considerable significance in psychology and could lead to publication, according to the faculty judges. Sheilia McLean, LSU '78, founder of the award, and a member of the La Sierra University Board of Trustees, donated these awards because of her desire to give back to the Psychology Department because she benefited so much from the education she received there. Three grants are awarded annually, with application deadlines in November and May for funding periods beginning in January and June. . . . . . . . . . . . by Kandi White
