"Life as a Trust Walk" is the title of Dr. Denise Carmody's presentation in the annual Paul J. Landa Lecture Series, on Saturday, February 23, at La Sierra University Church, 4937 Sierra Vista Ave., Riverside. Free and open to the public, the lecture is scheduled for 3:00 pm. A reception will follow in the Alumni Center across the street.

Carmody is Professor of Religious Studies and Interim Provost at Santa Clara University. An accomplished scholar and theologian, she has authored more than 60 books (singly or with her late husband John Tully Carmody), and over two dozen articles in academic and popular journals. Her scholarship ranges from world religions to Christian theology and the spiritual life.

Her two most recent monographs are Organizing a Christian Mind: A Theology of Higher Education (1997) and An Ideal Church: A Meditation (1999). Both are available in the La Sierra University Bookstore.

Carmody's own pilgrimage of faith has led her through ever-deepening passages calling for great courage: her taking of vows in a religious order; her struggle over relinquishing those vows with integrity; the profound companionship of marriage and the premature loss of her life partner to cancer; the disciplines of a believing scholar's life. Humble, human and engaging, she is highly readable and listenable--a most fitting contributor to this series of lectures on the integration of faith and learning.

Dr. Paul J. Landa, whom the lecture series memorializes, was professor of the history of Christianity at Loma Linda and La Sierra Universities for 26 years, from 1971 to 1997.
