Advancement
The entire Advancement "A-team" (alumni relations, development,
publications, public relations, planned giving, events planning, Annual
Fund, administration) are up to their eyebrows in work on the LSU Alumni
Homecoming weekend, March 7-10, 2002.
Business
& Management
Prudence LaBeach Pollard, associate professor of management, was asked
by the Mayor and City Council to serve a second term as a member of the
Human Resource Board for the City of Riverside. The Board oversees all
human resource (HR) policies and actions of the City. Appointees serve
a three-year term at the request of the Mayor and the City Council. The
Human Resource Board is made up of HR professionals and concerned professionals
with relevant experience who volunteer their service to the City. Pollard
is certified by the Society for Human Resource Management as a Professional
in Human Resource and teaches management classes in the School of Business
and Management.
Financial
Administration
Diana Narozniak of Student Financial Services welcomed her first grandson
on Feb. 1. Charles Reginald III was 6lbs, 2 oz, 19 inches.
Student Financial Services is happy to welcome Nathan Byrd, Counselor
for H-M, and Stephanie Marcelo, Counselor N-Z.

Exercise Science, Athletics
Walt Hamerslough had a poster presentation at the Western College Physical
Education Society's annual convention held in Reno, Nevada in October.
The title of the paper was "Validity of Self-Palpated Pulse Rate."
History,
Political Science
Anthea Hartig participated in the American Historical Association's Annual
Conference, San Francisco, CA, 3-7 January; chaired (for the first time)
the State Historical Resources Commission at its quarterly meeting in
Davis, Calif., January 31-February 1 (she was appointed to the commission
last summer and elected chair last November); is writing a book review
for Southern California Quarterly where former LSU Assistant Professor
of History Clark Davis is book review editor; and celebrated son Cameron's
second birthday.
Security
In Fall 2001, La Sierra University was presented with the 2001 Employer
Partnership Award, from the Riverside County Transportation Commission
Commuter Assistance Program. The award said, "Presented to La Sierra
University For Making a World of Difference Through Excellence in Commuter
Assistance." Doug Nophsker, director of Security, accepted the award
on behalf of La Sierra University. In the category of 500-999 employees,
La Sierra was one of three employers that received this award. The award
is on display at Security for viewing.
The Winter
Quarter AQMD Luncheon was held on Thursday, January 31. The Grand Prize,
a trip for two to Catalina Island valued at $200, went to Carlos Caceras
from Custodial. First Prize of $100 went to Sylvia Chang of Health Services.
Second Prize of $75 went to Ken Kurts from Sierra Towers. Eleven people
who won $50. There was a total of 74 people who won money at the luncheon.
Everyone won at least $25. The Spring Quarter AQMD Luncheon will be on
Thursday, April 25, at noon in the Cactus Room.
