Riverside, Calif., April, 2002 -- La Sierra University art department and graphic design alumni, Kathleen Khoo '01, Kar-Yee Yung '01, and Rhonda Buess '96 (all of whom have Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees), were honored with eight Addy awards at the recent 2002 Inland Empire Advertising Club's award ceremony at the Mission Inn. Many Inland Empire design firms were represented, from Palm Springs to Ontario. Two hundred and thirty entries were submitted covering all facets of design from corporate brochures to annual reports to stationery packages, posters, web sites, etc.

Because these entries were done by Khoo and Yung while they were students, they were considered student entries, which limited them to receiving (at the highest) only Addy Silver Awards. However, the ranking of all 230 entries, made available for viewing on the IEAC web site, revealed that the University Yearbook ranked #6 (and would have received a Gold Addy), Perspectives ranked #22, the Cultural Awareness Package ranked #22 and Magnolia Bird Farm Package ranked #82.

Much to our surprise and pleasure, the second, third and fourth ranking entries were posters designed by another LSU graphic design alumna Rhonda Buess, for the Arthritis Foundation and entered by the Landon Agency. These posters received Addy Gold Awards plus Print BEST of SHOW!

Special thanks goes to Peter Erhard, MFA, professor of art, who worked hard to get the entries prepared and submitted for Khoo and Yung. Congratulations to these three outstanding young women. We are proud to claim them as our alumni.
