Riverside, Calif., January, 2001-- January 29 was the first day of Mission Emphasis Week at La Sierra University. According to Jodi Cahill, director of Homebase Ministries and dean of Angwin Hall, La Sierra's main focus is to have a mission in life: To Seek, To Know, To Serve. Mission begins where you are, she says. "In keeping with the philosophy of Homebase Ministries, your mission starts with the person next to you. We are proud to recognize the missions of two outstanding individuals on our own campus, Drs. Geraty and Lowry." Lawrence T. Geraty, co-campaign chairman for United Way of Inland Valleys, and Maynard Lowry, campaign coordinator for LSU, received awards of appreciation from Riverside attorney Ted Stream, president of the board of directors of United Way of Inland Valleys. United Way recognized their outstanding contribution of time, expertise, and funds to the campaigns. Through voluntary payroll deductions, La Sierra employees contributed over $10,400 to the latest United Way campaign. The United Way presentation was made at University Worship on February 1, followed by a program showcasing other opportunities for students to get involved. Students performed an original play detailing the student missionary experience, which drew laughter and applause, and deepened interest in volunteering for ministry both at home and abroad. ### Story by Christy K.
