Robert W. Taylor, a secondary science teacher at Delta Junction High School in Delta Junction, Alaska, has been awarded an Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellowship. Taylor‚s fellowship, which will be served in the Washington, DC, office of Representative Sherwood Boehlert (R-23rd/NY), runs from September 2000 until July 2001.

Mr. Taylor graduated from La Sierra University in 1981 with a BA in chemistry and earned his teaching credential there in 1985. While a student at La Sierra, he was known for his sense of humor and his involvement with the student association.

Taylor has taught the entire range of the science curriculum at Jordan High School in Los Angeles (1984-1993) and at Delta Junction High School in Alaska (1993-2000). He has received the Southern California Section Chemistry Teacher of the Year Award (1991), the Alaska Biology Teacher of the Year Award (1997), and the Tandy Award in Math, Science, and Technology Education (1999). He is currently serving as the Alaska Science Teacher Association‚s president-elect.

The Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellowship Program was authorized by act of Congress and is administered by the US Department of Energy in cooperation with other Federal offices and the Triangle Coalition for Science and Technology Education. The fellowship offers elementary and secondary mathematics and science teachers who have demonstrated excellence in teaching an opportunity to serve in the national public policy arena. Fellows offer practical insight to establishing and operating education programs. Fellowships increase understanding, communication, and cooperation between legislative and executive branches and the mathematics and science education community.
