Dr. Stephen O'Leary to Speak for Research Days at La Sierra University

Riverside, Calif., May 5, 1999--Dr. Stephen O'Leary, an associate professor at the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Southern California, will speak on the topic of Media Coverage of the Millenium, at La Sierra University, on Thurs., May 20 at 7:30 p.m. in Cossentine Hall.

Dr. Stephen O'Leary is well known for his work on issues related to the millenium and is author of "Arguing the Apocalypse: A Theory of Millennial Rhetoric." He has written widely on new religious movements, and speaks throughout the country on religious and technological responses to the end of the century.

O'Leary's address will be part of La Sierra's Research Recognition Days held on May 17-21. Paper sessions allowing students to present critical analysis papers on a variety of topics will be held on Wed., May 19 from 3-4:50 p.m. and 7-7:50 p.m. in Cossentine Hall, room 106

The week's events will culminate on Thurs., May 20 at 7 p.m. with a "wine" and cheese reception in the lobby of Cossentine Hall, with the opportunity to view the student research posters. During the reception, student researchers will be available to answer questions and discuss their research with fellow-students, faculty, and visitors from the community. At 7:30 p.m. there will be a brief research-awards ceremony, followed by Dr. O'Leary's address.
