Events of Commencement to take place
June 10-13, 1999 at La Sierra University

Riverside, Calif., May 4, 1999--La Sierra University Events of Commencement at La Sierra University will be June 10-13:

Celebration of Completion: June 10 at 6:30 p.m., Matheson Chapel
Consecration: June 11 at 8 p.m., LSU Church
Worship Service: June 12 at 10:45 a.m., LSU Church
Teacher Dedication: June 12 at 4 p.m., Matheson Chapel
Conferring of Degrees: June 13 at 8 a.m. Founders Green

Approximately 270 students will receive degrees including associate's, bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees.

The Conferring of Degrees takes place Sunday morning, June 13 at 8 a.m. on the Founders' Green. The commencement address will be given by Dr. Samuel Betances, one of the leading motivational speakers in America today who works to help others learn the importance of pulling cultures together as a way of bringing America back to the top-in education, business, and society in general. As he puts it, "Our mission is to make America stronger, healthier, and freer than when we found her."

Other official Events of Commencement include Consecration, which will be Friday, June 11 at 8 p.m. in the La Sierra University Church, 4937 Sierra Vista Ave. This event is a sacred service and is organized by the Senior Class of 1997, and includes music and short talks by members of the class, as well as a homily by Sam Leonor, pastor of the La Sierra University Church.

Worship Service takes place Saturday, June 12 at 10:50 a.m. in the LSU Church. The speaker will be John Nixon, senior pastor of Oakwood College Church in Huntsville, Ala.

Teacher Dedication hosted by the School of Education will take place Saturday, June 12 at 4 p.m. in Matheson Chapel, and recognizes those graduates completing teacher education and credentialing programs. The speaker will be Ed Boyatt, associate professor of administration and leadership at La Sierra University.

A Celebration of Completion will also be held again this year for students completing non-degreed pre-professional programs who will be transferring to professional programs at other schools. This event takes place on Thursday, June 11, at 6:30 p.m. in Matheson Chapel.
