As Chair of the Department of Music, I'd like to welcome you to
the department's web site. The Department of Music is an integral
part of La Sierra University, a university where music is highly
valued. The environment of learning and culture, along with the
close proximity to Los Angeles, enriches the programs of study.
A distinguished faculty of artist-scholars prepares students for
professional music careers in performance and teaching.
The music faculty is committed to providing a challenging and rewarding
environment where you can grow and develop, both artistically and
intellectually. In addition to the Bachelor of Music in Performance
and a Bachelor of Music in Music Education, the Department of Music
offers a Bachelor of Arts in Music, a degree designed for talented
students interested in professional careers outside of music performance
or music education. A unique program called the Music/Pre-professional
degree allows students to use music as the vehicle for attaining
the requirements necessary for professional schools. The Music/Pre-Medicine
and the Music/Pre-Dentistry degrees have been collaboratively designed
with the professional schools of Loma Linda University.
Striving for excellence is an important goal of the Department
of Music. In addition to providing you with the challenges and rewards
of excellence in education, the music department strives to make
each music student an integral part of the music department's family.
The faculty and staff are not only committed to providing you with
a quality education, they are also committed to providing you with
a caring and nurturing support system. You will not be only a name
and/or ID number at La Sierra University, you will be part of the
music family.
The Department of Music is an institutional member of the National
Association of Schools of Music. The requirements for entrance and
for graduation are in accordance with the published regulations
of this accrediting body. As you consider La Sierra University for
your studies in music, be assured that our commitment is to educate
musicians who will be the artists, music teachers, and cultural
leaders of the twenty-first century.
Sincerely,
Kimo Smith, DMA
