Education
He earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University
of North Texas in 1976. Since that time he has done post-graduate
study at Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey,
Hochschule in Graz, Austria, and the Oregon Bach Festival
in Eugene, Oregon. Dr. Thurber has studied choral and orchestral
conducting with such eminent conductors as Herbert Blomstedt,
Sir David Willcocks, Howard Swan, Josepf Flummerfelt, Jon
Robertson, David Neuen, and Helmuth Rilling. He has been a
faculty member in the department since 1975.
Current Duties
Dr. Thurber, until August 2000, was Director of choral activities,
a position he held since 1975. He is now the new Director
of Music Education. In addition to his duties at La Sierra
University, Dr. Thurber is Director of Music at the University
Church in Loma Linda.
