The department provides a curriculum in mathematics as a cultural
study for all liberal arts students, as a basic tool for the scientist,
and as a preparation for graduate study and for teaching.
The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science
offers Bachelor of Science degrees in computer science and in information
systems. A minor in mathematics is available.
Preparation for teaching
Students preparing to teach at the secondary level should plan
to qualify for state of California teaching credentials by completing
the bachelor's degree and passing the PRAXIS (and/or SSAT) subject
area assessment. During the freshman year, prospective teachers
of both secondary and elementary levels should see the School of
Education section of the Bulletin and consult consult the credential
analyst and the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the
School of Education for detailed information concerning requirements.

and Instruction designed for prospective elementary secondary teachers
