Patents (Lexis-Nexis) Patent Classification (Lexis-Nexis) Patent Manual (Lexis-Nexis) Search the full text of patents issued by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Utility patents are covered from 1975 onwards, with selective coverage from 1971-74. Plant and design patents are covered from December 1976 onwards. The Patents database includes full text of patents, but not graphics, complex equations, or chemical structure diagrams. The Patent Classification database lists patents by classification number; the Patent Manual, an electronic version of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office's Manual of Classification, lists all the classification numbers and allows you to search their definitions. These provide an alternate access into the databases. Updated weekly.
