What is this service?

In an effort to support faculty research and the overall academic program offered by the University, the Library provides a "current awareness service", also known as "table of contents service." Users can

• receive by weekly e-mail the tables of contents of up to 50 journals selected from 25,000+ titles
• receive notification of newly published articles, based on keywords or authors determined by the user.

It is important to note that this is a customized service. Each faculty member who signs up will be able to choose the keywords, authors, strings of text or journals that he or she is interested in. There is a limit of 50 journal titles and 25 keyword or author searches.

The service is provided by a Library arrangement with Ingenta, formerly known as CARL Uncover.

How do I sign up?

You will need to register for it from a computer with a La Sierra University IP address and set up a personal profile. This is a simple seven-step process:

1. Connect to www.ingenta.com from a campus computer. The La Sierra University Library name should display in the upper right of the screen.
2. On the left side of the screen, click on the Sign Up Now button.
3. Select "Personal registration" by clicking on the button labeled personal.
4. Fill in the required fields: last name, first name, e-mail address, country, username and password of your choice. Be sure that the "full-text" box is checked, as otherwise you will not have access to full text, TOC, or Research alerts!
5. Click on Continue.
6. Create your profile using the menu on the left of the screen. Note that this may be a long process, depending on how many journals or searches you wish to have. You will be able to edit this later if the results are not satisfactory.
7. Click on My Table of Contents to select journals for the e-mail table of contents delivery.

How do I use it?

To access your existing personal profile, connect to www.ingenta.com. Sign in on the left side of the screen with your username and password. To view your profile details, click the "Manage My Ingenta" button on the left of the screen. For a list of your current search alerts, click "My Research Alerts." For a list of your current table of content alerts, click "My Table of Contents." You can add or delete selections by following screen instructions.

Please do not set up more than one profile - the Library is billed for each additional account.

If you are at a public workstation, please be sure to click "Sign Out" when you are finished so that other users cannot access your account.

How can I get the full text of articles?

1. Search the library catalog to see if La Sierra has a print copy of the journal.
2. Check our list of full-text journals available online to see if we have an e-text available.
3. If either of these fails, the Library can get a copy through interlibrary loan. You can fill out requests using our on-line form. Requested articles usually arrive in 8-10 calendar days.
