  • MFA in Printmaking, California State University, Long Beach, 2007
  • BFA in Graphic Design, California State University, Long Beach, 2004

Principal Interests

Professor Musso is fascinated by the natural world and its many complex ecological relationships. Taking the physical world as his starting point Musso gathers imagery collected from his long distance hikes (over 4000 miles to date) and weaves intricate visual stories that give insight into the interconnectedness of the natural world. Artist Statement

The physical world is an astonishing place and one of the best ways to truly see and approach an intimate personal understanding of it is by traveling on foot—freed from the technological world. This simple and ancient activity slows time and provides one with focus in the present moment and place. The act of seeing, sensing and being is profoundly intense. To fully engage with this intensity one has to respond in some fashion. As a visual artist I respond by creating visual images.

I have explored thousands of miles of remote backcountry areas on foot and continue to make images based on my observations and experiences. My curiosity compels me to. The pull of the unknown draws me onward both down the trail and in my artistic creation. I don’t know what is beyond the next ridge but I am driven to find out even if I have to continue hiking past it for fifty more miles. I’ll share with you what I find. I hope it astonishes you because it certainly astonishes me.
