To whom does this resource apply & what are the content guidelines:
All La Sierra University employees who hold current and valid La Sierra ID numbers and La Sierra email accounts may request the ability to upload pages into a personal web space. Non-faculty employees may upload files--once access is granted--onto the web server http://employee.lasierra.edu/. There is a quota (limit) for each employee, and this quota may be changed without notice.
Faculty employees who hold current and valid La Sierra ID numbers and La Sierra administrative access accounts (email, D2L, etc.) may request the ability to upload pages to an academic-oriented web space located at http://faculty.lasierra.edu/. NONE of the files located on this server may be of a personal (personal meaning, pictures of family, vacations, etc.) or business-related nature. This server space is ONLY for the use of academic related subjects, currently including, but not necessarily limited to: course-work, academic related research, and faculty CV. Faculty wishing to create websites of a more personal nature may request space on http://employee.lasierra.edu/.
Again, please note, neither of these web servers may be used for the purposes of running for-profit businesses, or for participating in any activities that would be at odds with the beliefs of the Seventh-day Adventist church, the standards of La Sierra University, or specific work contracts signed by ANY La Sierra University employee, faculty, staff, administration, or student worker. The office of the Webmaster reserves the right to remove (without prior notice) ANY web pages the office or its representatives deem offensive, or contrary to any of the afore-mentioned provisions.
Is there help available for creating and managing these sites?
Neither the office of the Webmaster, nor any other department of Information Technology creates or designs web pages/web sites for personal use. This rule includes pages placed on either of the two servers mentioned above (faculty or employee). Faculty may request assistance in understanding the process involved with uploading, maintaining, or creation of sites, but sites will not be created, or maintained by IT or the Webmaster's office. Faculty or staff working with pages/sites housed on www.lasierra.edu may request help with creating or maintaining pages on that site.
Web site addresses/access:
Your web site address, once activated will look like one (or both) of these:
http://employee.lasierra.edu/~yourusername/
http://faculty.lasierra.edu/~yourusername/
In order to "put" or upload your web page files onto the web server, you must use your FTP program or web site management program (such as Dreamweaver) to transfer the files onto the web server. There is some simple and very standard information you will need to achieve this:
- FTP Host or Hostname:
- For faculty: faculty.lasierra.edu
- For employees: employee.lasierra.edu
- Path or initial folder:
- /www
- Default index page file name:
- index.html or index.htm or index.php
- Be sure you only use file with any of these three file names in any single directory.
-
-
Non-acceptable file types/storage:
The web servers MAY NOT be used for long-term storage of personal files that are not meant to be freely and regularly available to the public, or to participants of a class or course. Long-term storage may be considered to be a time-frame of more than 7 consecutive 24-hour time periods. Removal of a file at the 7-day mark, and subsequent replacement of the same file shortly thereafter may constitute a breach of contract and may result in loss of privileges.
The web site or web servers may NOT be used for the long-term storage of file formats such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Page Maker, or Word documents (and the like). Word documents MUST be converted into PDF files prior to distribution on the web. If you do not have the capabilities for the production or conversion of Word, Excel or PowerPoint files into PDF, please contact the office of the Webmaster.
Employees are solely responsible for the content of, and any repercussions that may arise from the distribution or use of their web pages.
These terms subject to change without notice.
Faculty and employees may use the request form below to request use/web space on appropriate servers. Confirmation of your status and identity may be subject to a verification process before access is granted. Neither employees nor faculty may distribute their passwords to students or other persons who may be tasked with developing their web pages; this is a violation of terms of use.
