Dr. Schmidt received her Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1986.  Since then she has been a psychology faculty member, Dean of the College of Arts and Science, and Vice President of Academic Administration.  Since her return to the Psychology Department in 2000, her research has focused on the effects of Service-Learning on college students as well as on children mentored by university students.  She is currently the Faculty Coordinator for Service Learning and is funded by a grant from the Learn and Serve America program of the Corporation for National and Community Service.  In addition to teaching Growing Up in America, she teachers General Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Adolescent Psychology and Cross-cultural Psychology.  She has been at La Sierra University since 1974.

ELVIN RODRIGUEZ, HUMN Team Leader

Elvin S. Rodriguez received his BM and MM in Music Performance from the Manhattan School of Music, and later received an Ed.M. and Ed.D. in Music Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. His studies have taken him from La Sierra University and California State University, Fullerton, where he studied with Rhona Hodgen and artist teacher Earle Voorhies, to Manhattan School of Music and Teachers College, Columbia University, where he studied with Constance Keene, Mark Silverman and Dr. Robert Pace. Among his many awards, Dr. RodrÕguez has received the distinction of Promising Young Artist from the national ARTS organization and the Young Artist Guild Award.
