Life Worship Services
Every week Spiritual Life offers a variety of worship services on the La Sierra University campus. Two of the largest gatherings happening every week at La Sierra are University Worship, (Thursdays) and First Service (Friday evenings). Continue reading to learn more about UW and FS as well as the many other worship experiences held across campus.
Here, students, faculty, and staff take an hour on Thursday morning at 11am to worship together as one. There are two types of University Worship opportunities:
Corporate Worship
The LSU campus meets together in the La Sierra University Church for a community gathering. This is a service designed to introduce and expose our campus to Jesus Christ and the Gospel message through great music and diverse speakers from all across the globe.
Breakout Worship
The Breakout Worship program, meeting alternate weeks of the Corporate Worship service, provides students the opportunity to choose from a variety of small mentor groups and workshops. With a mixture of professors, staff, and students alike, over 30 small groups, themed in numerous areas, meet five times a quarter across the campus. This gives every person on campus the opportunity to build relationships within their group, as well as grow in their personal walk with God on a more intimate and focused level.
Below are some examples of Breakout groups:
- Good Anger
- Love or Loveless?
- Slacker Worship
- You Matter!
- Missions Mob
- Questions with the Pastor
- The Meaning of Praise Music
- Exploring Your Faith
- And Many More...
Friday Night Service
Friday Night Service is a vibrant Friday night church service. It provides a dynamic link between the University and community environments. This is not vespers, this is church. With a Praise Band that draws members from both the LSU student body as well as from the community, FNS provides a place where anyone that decides to visit will feel at home. Bringing people into a Christ-centered community through authentic, relevant and personal worship is the main goal of those that choose to do church with FS on Friday night.
This mid-week worship is held in Hole Memorial Auditorium (HMA) Wednesday nights at 10pm. Here you will experience an array of presentations from music to preaching, young to old, and new to experienced musicians and speakers primarily from our very own student body. This service is provided in conjunction with the Student Association of La Sierra University (SALSU). Even at its late hour, there is never a shortage of energy at Rendezvous.
Sabbath School
The La Sierra University Sabbath School gives students the opportunity to come together and build community and fellowship as they learn more about God's Word and spirituality. Students enjoy breakfast together before the discussion begins. LSU Sabbath School provides students with an opportunity to develop as young Sabbath School leaders, as they're given the chance to facilitate Biblical discussions.
Tuesday Tunes
Using the campus café, The Eagles Nest, Spiritual Life brings vibrant and solid ministry through Christian bands, poetry reading and good ol' fashioned Karaoke. This takes place every Tuesday evening beginning at 8pm. It's a place where students can take a break from their busy schedules of classes and studying, so, that they can socialize & get connected to the music and people around them.
Student Led Spiritual Emphasis Week
Spiritual Emphasis Week is a week of Worships planned for students by students. Planning begins up to a quarter in advance as selected student leaders come together to plan every aspect of the program specially geared towards sharing relevant topics and issues with their peers. Spiritual Emphasis Week holds worships Tuesday - Thursday at 11am, Friday at 8pm and Saturday at 11am in the LSUC as well as plans the Dorm worships for Monday-Wednesday night at 10pm.
International Student Worship
We would like to invite you to join our international student worship sessions. We present services that are geared towards the many international students that we have attending school at La Sierra.
Dorm Worship
Happens three times a week with one service in the boy’s dorm and one in the girl’s dorm on Monday and Tuesday respectively. On Wednesdays there is dorm worship provided by the Student Association of La Sierra University (SALSU). This service is called Rendezvous and is one of the most attended dorm worships too. Dorm Worship is a time set aside for the students to come together and worship God for about thirty minutes during the night at least once a week.
