Social Work Club
A goal of the social work program at La Sierra University is to
provide students with resources and opportunities for involvement
both in the academic environment and in the community. The LSU social
work club exists to provide students with opportunities for fun,
fellowship and service. The club is governed by elected social work
students. Historically, the club offers activities for socialization
such as beach vespers and bowling parties as well as community service
activities. This year, the club has many exciting opportunities
planned. The following pictures represent some of the recent social
work club activities.

2004 Vespers at Professor Rasmussen's
Festival of Nations, 2003
Festival of Nations is an event sponsored by La Sierra University
that gives clubs on campus the opportunity to display different
cultural activities and foods. The HHSW club teamed up with students
from a social work class to operate a booth that offered an assortment
of goodies. The booth sold lasagna, lollipops, jelly drinks, bags
of candy, raffle tickets, animal balloons and set out bins to gather
cans and bottles to recycle. Many students helped run the booth
and invited the crowd to visit the social work booth. The event
was a good opportunity to show the community the range of social
work and showcase the HHSW club.

Social Work Club Visits Operation SafeHouse, 2002
As
a result of the club's interest in community outreach, social work
students visited Operation SafeHouse, a program providing safety,
shelter, counseling and family reunification services for runaway,
throwaway and at-risk teens in Riverside County. Social work students
spent a Sunday afternoon and evening playing games with the teens
and preparing them dinner.
