| General Security
The University is committed to maintaining high standards
for safety in all areas. Every effort is made to provide
adequate security by the University Security
Department and the Residential Life Staff, but,
when it really gets down to it, a great deal of the
responsibility lies upon the residents. Dial x2222 (Security) immediately if you see suspicious individuals
around the residence halls or witness an incident.
Then notify your Dean or RA (See "RIght to Know",
a pamphlet published by University Patrol).
Escort Service
Call for a Campus Assistant Patrol (CAP) officer from
Security in the evening or walk with a friend(s).
Residence Hall Security
Here are a number of actions you must take to help
make the residence halls secure and safe for all involved
in residence life.
- ALWAYS lock your room door and windows when leaving
even if you are going to be gone only a few minutes.
Thieves are quick! Residents have had their wallets
stolen even while asleep in their own rooms, so
it's good idea to lock your door during naps and
upon retiring for the night.
- Make a list of all of your personal belongings,
including identifying serial numbers.
Record all numbers of credit cards and checking
accounts, keeping the addresses of credit cards
and bank originators so that you may contact them
in the event of a theft.
Keep all money in Student Bank (Cashiers). Do not
keep large amounts of cash in your room.
- Consider leaving your valuables and family heirlooms
at home.
NEVER prop open public area doors that are supposed
to be locked. Be sure these doors lock after you
leave or enter the building.
- Do not let anyone into the halls that does not
belong there. Ask them who they are looking for
and refer them to the Dean or the RA-on-duty for
help.
Never lend your key to anyone. It is a misdemeanor
for a person to duplicate or have in his/her possession
any key to a building controlled by the university
without proper authorization.
- Avoid walking alone anywhere at night, if possible.
Use a buddy system. This is for men and women!!!
Keyless Entry Doors in Angwin,
Calkins and Gladwyn
ID cards unlock the security doors which allows residents
to come and go on their own schedules. Your card is
never to be loaned to anyone at any time. Loaning
or tampering with an ID card for the purpose of illegal
entry to a residence hall will lead to a disciplinary
action.
Security Office (University Patrol x2222)
The operation of a vehicle on campus is a privilege
granted by the University and is not a right of any
employee, student, or visitor. La Sierra University
Vehicle Code (LSUVC) rules and regulations are designed
to aid the flow of traffic, provide the maximum parking
possible, and to make the streets safe for everyone.
Parking Permits
All residence hall students must have a parking
permit from the Security Office, including a quarter sticker and current
assigned lot sticker which is to be displayed on the
parking decal. The lot sticker will be given to you
by your Residential Dean or secretary. Students must
park only in the lot assigned to their residence hall.
Temporary parking permits for special circumstances
may be obtained at the Security office. A temporary
parking permit can be purchased for $1.00 a day
or $5.00 a week.
See Traffic and Parking Policies for further information.
Insurance of Personal Property
The University does not assume liability directly
or indirectly for loss or damage to personal property
by fire, theft, water, or any other cause. The University
is not responsible for personal property left behind
by students subsequent to the date of their withdrawal,
transfer, departure, suspension, or dismissal from
any room in University housing. Please see your Dean and/or RA
for information about Student Theft Insurance. You
may purchase insurance to cover your personal belongings in your dorm room for a reasonable rate through an outside organization. For more information and/or brochures contact you're Residence Hall Dean.
Right of Entry
The University respects the right to privacy of individuals.
However, authorized University personnel have the
right to enter the premises occupied by residents
for the purpose of emergency, health, safety, maintenance,
management of applicable rules and regulations, or
for any reasonable cause. The University shall exercise
these rights reasonably and with respect for the resident's
right to be free from unreasonable searches and intrusions
into study or privacy. Room inspections for or to
make necessary repairs to rooms and room equipment
may occur.
In addition, where vacancies exist in a room, such
vacancies may be shown to prospective occupants
when accompanied by a member of the Residential
Life office staff. Insofar as possible, advance
notification will be given. In all cases, authorized
personnel will identify themselves as university
personnel. In all cases, if entry is made when the
resident is not in the room, notification of the
entry will be left in the room.
