| Mission and Vision
for Residential Life
The Residential Life Program at LSU provides a positive
living/learning environment for our students as well
as providing a safe, clean living environment staffed
by trained professional and para-professional personnel.
The staff acts as teachers, mentors, and role models
to foster principles of effective communication, ethical
behavior, sense of community, and service for all
resident students.
Our Mission
Embracing and celebrating the uniqueness of our multicultural
student body, the Department of Residential Life at
La Sierra University, will provide progressive programming
intended to challenge student thought and expression
and encourage self-government. This is to be accomplished
through emphasis on leadership skills in the Christian
context of the teachings of Jesus, spiritual wellness,
self-awareness, responsible citizenship, and concern
for the good of all persons. The department espouses
ethical and moral practices in policy making, disciplinary matters, keeping confidences and promoting developmental
life skills. As students' advocates, comfortable living
quarters that are systematically maintained and upgraded
will be a priority. The Department of Residential
Life views the residential experience as a prelude
to successful living in today's diverse and complex
world.
Our Vision
Through addressing these areas, the Department of
Residential Life will challenge students to become
more:
- self-aware, that is, knowing what they
are feeling, thinking, and doing;
- self-accepting, that is, accepting those
feelings and thoughts as self in the moment;
- self-responsible, that is, recognizing
themselves as the chief causal agent and their ability
to respond; and
- self-assertive, that is, claiming and
exercising their rights to exist and be happy.
To this end, we create environments where the following
paradoxical goals may coexist:
- We advocate for the common good and champion
the rights of individuals;
- We encourage intelligent risk-taking and set limits
on behavior; and
- We encourage independent thoughts and teach interdependent
behavior.
Through creating such environments, we assist students
in managing their lives better, both during and after
college. |
