EVERYTHING YOU EVER WATNED TO KNOW ABOUT AUDITIONS BUT WERE AFRAID TO ASK!
Venue: Matheson
Date & Time: Thursday, September 25
Professional actor, Larry Herron leads this workshop with demonstrations, anecdotes and practical tips on the audition process for students and aspiring actors in the local community.
Fresh from a guest-starring role on ER, Herron will offer a wealth of experience both as a recent MFA graduate in performance from UC San Diego and as an experienced actor. Notable roles include Herron's award-winning performance of Othello at the Kennedy Center Performing Arts Center in Washington D.C., where he made history by being the first actor to win the national KCACTF (Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival) acting scholarship competition two years in a row. Other notable roles include "Twelfth Night"(Antonio) Chautauqua Theatre; "The Deception" (Ensemble) The La Jolla Playhouse; "Trojan Women" (Ensemble) Edinburgh, Scotland; "Six Degrees of Separation"(Paul); "Ma Rainey's Black Botton"(Cutler); "A Flea in Her Ear"(Chandebise); "The Importance of Being Earnest"(Jack); "TopDog UnderDog"(Lincoln). Herron's film debut came in 2003 playing Corey in an independent film titled "Self".
In addition to his involvement with this workshop, Herron will be a consulting artistic director for the LSU Drama fall production of Arthur Miller's dramatic masterpiece, "The Crucible," which will be entered for competition in the regional KCACTF.
Herron will be working closely with cast members as they explore elements of acting including relationships, story and character development within the overall scope of the show.
Herron will also coach students from "The Crucible" who are nominated to compete for the acting scholarship at the regional festival in February 2008.
Workshop participants are invited to prepare a 2-minute monologue that includes a contemporary and classical piece.
Open auditions for "The Crucible" will be held on Sunday, September 28 at 1 p.m. in Matheson Hall.
