U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) and USDA Forest Service (FS) |
|
|
Dear colleague:
We need your help!
In 2005, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) and USDA Forest Service (FS) will sponsor over 80 PAID SUMMER INTERNSHIPS with a primary focus on recruiting and exposing students of color , particularly freshman and sophomore undergraduates, to conservation work. Students who do NOT hold freshman or sophomore status may ONLY apply to internships with the FWS in Alaska.
The Conservation Career Diversity Intern Program is a collaboration between FWS, FS and The Environmental Careers Organization.
Each summer internship offers:
- A $4,800 stipend ($400/week for 12 weeks)
- $1,000 housing allowance or free housing
- $300 minimum to help with relocation expenses
Your students are getting an exclusive sneak preview of these opportunities since our recruitment brochure won't go out to other schools and organizations until the week of November 15, 2004!
Take advantage of this early preview by distributing this information widely to all diverse students interested in jumpstarting their conservation careers! Students may view the internships and apply online at www.eco.org/conservation . In the meanwhile, please keep an eye out for our upcoming recruitment brochure!
We would like to recruit students already majoring in the academic fields below or students who express a strong interest in pursuing the following majors:
- Biology
- Ecology
- Wildlife Science
- Fishery Science
- Natural Resources
- Botany
- Hydrology
- Chemistry
- Geology
- Cartography
- GIS
- Forestry
- Soil Science
- Environmental Education
- Parks and Recreation
- Range Conservation
- Physical Science
If you have a listserv that you are able to distribute this information through or provide to us to get in touch with students directly, please let us know!
Please feel free to contact me anytime at 617-426-4783, ext. 142 or by email at jxiong@eco.org. Thank you for your assistance in helping to bring about a new generation of diverse conservation professionals!
Sincerely,
Josephine Xiong
