Biophysics Club Scholarship ($100)
  • Must be a member of the biophysics club in good standing
  • Must demonstrate service to the club.
  • 2.5 GPA and above is required.
General Physics schalorship Endowment ($200)
  • Financial need will be considered but only necessary condition.
  • 2.5 GPA and above is required
  • Service to department.
Edwin Karlow Excellence Award ($500)

Dr. Edwin Karlow was an esteemed professor of Physics that taught and provided service to both LSU and his community. Edwin Karlow has touched and impacted the lives of many students and faculty in the thirty years he had served here on the faculty of LSU. He was recognized with high honor from the university for both his service and teaching. This scholarship is in honor of his accomplishments here at LSU. This award is given to an upper classman in their junior or senior year.

Criteria:

    • Student must not be graduating (However, a graduating senior could receive this award as a recognition that has no monetary value).
    • Student must have 3.0 and above GPA.
    • Service to department is a necessity.
    • Student must demonstrate service to its local community
H.M.C Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to the top biophysics freshman who have performed above expectation in their academic pursuits (400).

Criteria:

    • Have a high school GPA of at least 3.3.
    • Be enrolled in the Research Track of biophysics degree program.
    • Be an active member of biophysics club. Be enrolled in at-least 15 units per quarter.

Incoming Freshman Award

This will be awarded to incoming freshman into our biophysics program (300).

Criteria:

    • 3.5 GPA and above.
    • Must be qualified to enter the Biophysics research track of the B.S. program. This means, freshmen must have placement that would qualify them in Calculus I by the start of their fall first year.
    • Must be eligible to take English 113 or above

The department could make exemption to above criteria when student pool does not meet the above standard but must first consult the scholarship Sponsor.

Research Scholarship

 

Biophysics Student Research Grant ($400)

Purpose: To enhance undergraduate research opportunities within the Department of Physics by providing for payment of research expenses for students within the Biophysics Programs of the Physics Department. Scope: The award may be applied toward research expenses, including but not limited to: Research equipment, analysis software, and other equipment needed for completion of a student research project.

Criteria:

    • The student must be a currently enrolled student in good standing at La Sierra University and making acceptable progress in a major program offered by the Physics Department: Physics, Biophysics, and Engineering Physics.
    • The student must participate in a research program under the supervision of a faculty member of the La Sierra University Physics Department.

    Selection:

    • The student will fill out a research proposal stating the proposed plan of research, and itemized funding needs. The research proposal must be co-signed by a research advisor who is a full time faculty member of La Sierra University.
    • The research advisor should write a letter in support of the research proposal. The application will be reviewed by department faculty.
James Riggs Research Award ($1000)

Motivation:

To honor Prof. James W. Riggs, Jr., for his many years of service to the Department of Physics and to La Sierra University. To recognize his contributions in the areas of research and scholarship.

Purpose:

To enhance undergraduate research opportunities within the Department of Physics by providing for payment of research expenses for students within the Biophysics Programs of the Physics Department.

Scope:

The award may be applied toward research expenses, including but not limited to:

  1. Research equipment, analysis software, and other equipment needed for completion of a student research project.
  2. Travel and conference registration expenses to attend a regional, national, or international conference in the discipline.


Criteria:

    1. The student must be a currently enrolled student in good standing at La Sierra University and making acceptable progress in a major program offered by the Physics Department: Physics, Biophysics, and Engineering Physics.
    2. The student must participate in a research program under the supervision of a faculty member of the La Sierra University Physics Department.
      Selection:
    1. The student will fill out a research proposal stating the proposed plan of research, and itemized funding needs.
    2. The research proposal must be co-signed by a research advisor who is a full time faculty member of La Sierra University. The research advisor should write a letter in support of the research proposal.
    3. The faculty of the Department of Physics will evaluate all proposals and select recipients for the research award.
      Amount: up to $1000 per year

Summer Research Opputinities

Application Deadline: Deadline for receipt by the department of all application and supporting materials is April 1, for research to be performed within the following summer and academic year.
