Congratulations to Soneel Alam, Monty Joham and Heather Richard
Thank you very much for voting for the Board of Directors' candidates.
And
a very special thanks to all the candidates who took time out to turn in
an
application: Soneel Alam, Candy Hamp, Monty Joham, Gene Kim, Gerardo
Perez, Melinda Perez, Heather Richard, and Lydia Rolita.
There was a tie between Monty and Soneel for second and so we decided that
it would be best to not break the tie and take them both as directors.
The reasoning behind this decision is that it is best to have an odd
instead of an even number of directors (7).
Here are their statements in case you missed them:
Soneel Alam
Sophomore -- Biology major
My name is Soneel Alam (sophomore) and this is my first year at LSU. When
I heard about the Research Society in orientation, I knew right away that
it was for me. I've spent most of my time getting to know people and
learning more about the Research Society.
I think I should be elected because not only do I love research but I want
to expand the society by bringing in new ideas. Along with being
determined, I am also very dedicated. I have had experience working with
large groups and taken various leadership roles in church productions and
activity coordinator.
If elected, I will put in 100% of my efforts to help not only the society's
members but our institution as a whole, to enjoy research and science as I
do.
Monty Joham
Senior -- History major
Hello to all the members of the Research Society! I am Monty
Joham, a senior history major interested in serving as one of your leaders.
I am currently quite involved with research in the History of the
Renaissance. Among some of the positive things I can bring to our club is
a close link to both the Religion and History Departments, since for
example, my research mentor is Dr. Paul Landa, Professor of Religion. As
an interdisciplinary society that encompasses ALL disciplines, it is
imperative that our board of directors be diverse in order to meet the
needs of all its members. I feel I can successfully add to this diversity
through my non-science background. But the bottom line is that I will do
my best to make our society the number one
student-run organization on campus. Thank you for your support.
Heather Richard
Junior -- Biomathmatics major
Hello, fellow research society members. My name is Heather Richard and I
would like to tell you about myself and why I wish to be a member of your
Board of Directors. Research is vast, intriguing field about which I just
begun to learn last summer. I am currently working under the guidance of
Dr. J. Tosk. The interaction of microglial cells and neuron-like cells
under conditions of stress is a topic I am investigating at this time. I
am a junior Biomathematics major and Chemistry minor. After completing my
degree, I wish to go to medical school. You may be asking yourself, "Well
her pre-requisites are fine and nice, but why should she be elected to the
Board of Directors?" My response is that I want to help produce a
thriving, quality club, which isn't composed of only social activities but
also those of an intellectually stimulating nature. I am faithful to the
pursuits that I put my heart to and becoming a member of the Board of
Directors is one of my pursuits. If I am elected, I will show my gratitude
for your vote by being an instrumental part of creating a club that you not
only enjoy, but are proud to be a part of.
