Prerequisite for courses numbered above 300: FREN 300 or consent of the instructor. lower division FREN 101 French I (4) A beginning course in the study of the language and culture of French-speaking peoples through the use of audio/video tapes, computer software, and/or drills. Designed for students who have never studied French. There is a language lab requirement for this course. P rerequisite: French placement test score under 150/500. FREN 201 French III (4) A first-level intermediate course in the study of the language and culture of French-speaking peoples with emphasis on conversation, composition, vocabulary building, and culture-based discussions. There is a language lab requirement for this course. FREN 299 Directed Study (1-4) a course that provides a flexible format in which to pursue further language acquisition and fluency through a variety of activities suited to the student's needs and goals. upper division language and culture FREN 339 Advanced Language Proficiency (4)
FREN 425 Culture and Civilization (4) a cultural perspective of French civilization from its origins to the present, its interrelationship with its neighboring countries, and its influence on Western society and culture.
