Wilfred J. Airey Pre-law Scholarship
Criteria: A major in the Department of History, Politics and Society
with a minimum GPA of 3.5; demonstrated commitment to attending
an American Bar Association accredited law school; involvement in
extracurricular activities; two recommendations from La Sierra University
faculty under whom classes have been taken.
Gail Kendall Pre-law Women's Scholarship
Criteria: A woman who is a major in the Department with a minimum
GPA of 3.5; minimum LSAT score of 159; demonstrated commitment to
attending an American Bar Association accredited law school; involvement
in extracurricular activities; two recommendations from La Sierra
University faculty under whom classes have been taken.
Alonzo L. Baker Scholarship
Criteria: A major in the Department with superior scholarship and
an interest in political science and international relations.
Secondary Teaching Scholarship
Criteria: A major in the Department demonstrating superior scholarship
and a commitment to secondary teaching and who is enrolled in the
School of Education in a credential program.
Landeen-Airey-Hilde History Endowed Scholarship
Criteria: A History major at the junior, senior, or graduate level
with a superior academic record who is interested in research and
writing and is committed to teaching as a career; limited to United
States citizens.
Elmer G. Ross Latin American Studies Endowed Scholarship
Criteria: Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25; citizenship in one of
the American nations; Latin American Studies major of minor, or
demonstrated interest in Latin America while taking another major
offered by the Department of History and Political Science; interest
in denominational service.
Frederick G. Hoyt Writing Award
Criteria: Contestants must be History or Sociology majors. The writing
must be an original research paper of at least ten pages in length
using primary sources. The paper may be written for any course of
the Department having a requirement of such a paper. The winning
paper must demonstrate a quality of writing and research that is
consistent with the highest standards of the Department. If no paper
is deemed satisfactory in a given year, no prize will be given.
The deadline for submission of papers will be May 1 of the year.
Papers written in the Spring quarter of the academic year will be
eligible for the award in the following year. Student papers may
be submitted for prize consideration by the student author or by
a member of the Department. The winning paper shall be selected
by the faculty of the Department.
Martin Ridge Book Prize
Award: Book.
Criteria: Awarded for the best historiographical essay written by
an undergraduate during the academic year.
Frederick G. Hoyt Endowed Scholarship
Award: Variable.
Criteria: A History major; a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0; a student
in the department for at least three quarters; completion of a basic
course in research methods.
Legislative Internship
Award: A full tuition scholarship for one quarter while serving
in the office of a Congressman in the House of Representatives in
Washington, D.C.
Criteria: Selected from applicants by the faculty of the Department
with special consideration given to maturity, scholarship, skills
(especially writing and word processing), experience, and relevance
to professional plans (especially the law, government service, or
teaching).
The Institute for Cultural Exchange (ICE) Scholarship
Criteria: A major in the Department with superior scholarship and an interest in a career directed towards cross-cultural affairs and exchange.

in AD 101).

you as a scholarship recipient or result in a reduced award.
